Phage Therapy

Phage Therapy Phage therapy ,  viral phage therapy , or  phagotherapy  is the  therapeutic  use of  bacteriophages  to treat  pathogenic   bacterial infections . [1]  Bacteriophages, known as phages, are a form of  viruses . [2]  Phages attach to  bacterial cells , and inject a viral  genome  into the cell. [3]  The viral genome effectively replaces the bacterial genome, halting the bacterial infection. [3]  The bacterial cell causing the infection is unable to reproduce, and instead produces additional phages. [2]  Phages are very selective in the strains of bacteria they are effective against. [3]  Advantages include reduced side-effects and reduced risk of the bacterium's developing resistance. [3]  Disadvantages include the difficulty of finding an effective phage for a particular infection. [3]  However, virulent phages can be isolated much more quickly than other compounds and natural products due to the fact that they can be isolated from the environment with ease. [4]  In

Spinal muscular atrophy

Spinal muscular atrophy Two-Month-Old Baby Battling Rare Disease To Receive World’s Most Expensive Injection Suffering from genetic spinal muscular atrophy, the baby is undergoing gene theray and will require an injection that costs Rs 16 Crores An eight-week-old baby in Britain will receive an injection that costs about Rs. 16 Crores, reports claimed. Suffering from genetic spinal muscular atrophy, Edward will have to be administered one type of gene therapy—Zolgensma to fight the rare disease. Since Britain imports the doses from the US and Europe, the injection costs a whooping a 1.7 million pounds. A disease unique to children, genetic spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), occurs due to lack of the SMN-1 gene. Symptoms of the disease include weakening of chest muscles which eventually leads to a difficulty in breathing. Interestingly, until 2017 there was no cure for the disease. Men & Depression

Introduction Men and women both experience depression but their symptoms can be very different. Because men who are depressed may appear to be angry or aggressive instead of sad, their families, friends, and even their doctors may not always recognize the anger or aggression as depression symptoms. In addition, men are less likely than women to recognize, talk about, and seek treatment for depression. Yet depression affects a large number of men. What is depression? Everyone feels sad or irritable and has trouble sleeping once in a while. But these feelings and troubles usually pass after a couple of days. Depression is a common but serious mood disorder that may cause severe symptoms. Depression affects the ability to feel, think, and handle daily activities. Also known as  major depressive disorder  or  clinical depression , a man must have symptoms for at least two weeks to be diagnosed with depression. Both men and women get depression but their willingness to talk about their fe
